Top 4 Things to Avoid When Purchasing a Home
If you can avoid these when buying your new home, you will have a MUCH easier time selling it.
1. Power Lines
I’m talking about the BIG ones. The jury is out whether they are a health hazard, but even if they’re not, they’re an eyesore and I typically won’t even show a home that backs to power lines.
2. Busy Road
Backing to a busy road is a deal killer in my opinion. There are very few people that will want to buy your home if it backs to a busy street. So what do I consider “busy”? Anything with 2 or more lanes each way or if it has 1 lane each way with consistent traffic.
3. Sloped Yard
This isn’t as significant as the first two, but it’s still a no-no. Having a back yard that is too sloped (down or up) makes the yard virtually unusable and will be a red flag to prospective buyers when you sell.
4. “High” Neighbor
If your neighbor’s home behind you is at a considerably higher elevation than your home, I don’t recommend buying the home for two reasons: (1) There usually won’t be any privacy in your backyard and (2) all of their drainage will end up in your yard.
